Joshua Roper is a professional photographer, videographer, and the founder of Joshua Roper Photography, based in Boise, Idaho. His journey began in his early twenties when he took a job aboard a commercial crab fishing boat in Alaska’s Bering Sea. For years, he worked seasonally across the state, fishing for crab, salmon, halibut, cod, and herring. With camera gear always in tow, Joshua captured rare, behind-the-scenes glimpses of Alaska’s rugged fishing industry—an experience that helped shape his distinctive photographic perspective.
When not at sea, Joshua devoted himself to honing his craft by traveling the globe, documenting people, cultures, and landscapes that inspired him. With over 20 years of experience, he’s had the honor of collaborating with Fortune 100 companies, award-winning ad agencies, elite travel magazines, national tourism boards, and brands across the U.S.—from Alaska to New York—and even into Costa Rica.
Joshua is known for his ability to find the message within each moment, delivering impactful visual storytelling that exceeds client expectations, whether for major commercial campaigns or intimate editorial shoots.
Most recently, Joshua Roper Photography has expanded to include professional drone photography and video. As an FAA-certified drone pilot, Joshua offers aerial services for landscape, real estate, agriculture, and travel projects across Idaho and beyond.
